Passwords and keeping the login safe

What makes an acceptable password, how sign-in works on each device, and how to keep a login safe.

A password must be at least 10 characters. A long phrase that nobody else would guess is better than a short one with symbols. Lotdesk stores only a scrambled form of it, which cannot be turned back into the password.

Sign in and out. Sign in on the sign-in page with your email address. At the desk, Sign out is in the top menu. A phone keeps you signed in for about 30 days; after that it asks again, and anything written but not yet sent stays on the phone. Signing out on one device does not sign out the others.

One login each. The house has its own login, and each cataloguer has theirs, added from the Team page; see Adding and removing a cataloguer. Keep your own to yourself: do not share it, do not put it in a message to a group, and do not type it on a computer you do not trust. If a cataloguer leaves, the house removes them and their phone stops working at once.

If it is lost. Use Forgot your password? on the sign-in page; see Choosing a new password. A reset ends every sign-in you had, which is also the quickest way to shut a device out if you think someone else has your password.

Lotdesk will never ask for your password by email, and support never needs it. A message that asks for it is not from us.

If sign-in is refused and you are sure the password is right, see I can't sign in.
