The outbox, and what its count means
What the bar at the foot of the screen is telling you, and what each of its sentences means.
When you write on a signed-in screen, the lot is saved in the phone's own storage first. The bar at the foot of the screen then shows how many lots are written on the phone and not sent yet. When the number reaches zero the bar disappears, and that is how you know everything has reached the book.
The sentences you may see:
- "No signal — every lot is saved on the phone." The phone could not reach the book. Nothing is lost; it will try again when the signal returns.
- "Some of it is still on the phone — it will go on its own." Part of a batch got through and the rest is waiting.
- "One item needs a look before it can go." The book turned something down. The item stays in the list with the reason written on it. See Why a lot was turned down.
- "Sent to the book." The last batch arrived.
The Send now button tries again straight away. It is worth pressing when you have walked back into signal, or when you have fixed the thing an item was waiting for.
Each lot is sent with an identity of its own, so if a batch reached the book but the reply never made it back, sending it again does not make a second lot. The book recognises the lot and answers that it has it already.
An item with a reason on it has a link, take it off the list, that removes it from the phone. Use it only when you are sure you no longer need the lot, because it is gone from the phone as well.
